What Learning Centers Are Students Exposed To?

Students enrolled at Tiny Town Pre-School are exposed to various materials and activities on a
daily basis.  Learning centers are also incorporated into our classroom daily schedules.  Some of
these centers include, but are not limited:

Cognitive
Through fun games, puzzles, songs and manipulatives children are stimulated to think, observe,
reason, investigate, experiment, question and be creative.

Math
The children are exposed to numbers, sorting, classifying, sequencing, estimation and seriation.
We introduce counting games such as “Chutes and Ladders,” card games, number bingo, simple
addition games and subtraction games, etc.

Science
Our curriculum exposes children to various degrees of science along with hands-on experiments
and activities.  Children are encouraged to make observations, make predictions, and test their
predications.

Cooking
Not only does cooking help build children's self-confidence, but it also teaches nutrition, math,
reading, and science through counting, measuring, symbol and word recognition, volume, change
of matter, temperature, etc.

Language Arts
Activities include identifying letters of the alphabet, beginning letter sounds, rhyming words,
phonics, introduction of new vocabulary words and their meaning, memory recall, sequencing and
story development.

Writing/Fine Motor Skills
Children gain familiarity and practice in using paper, pencils, pens, scissors, stencils, stamps, mini
chalk boards, and more. A proper grasp is learned while writing and coloring.  Children also learn
controlled writing movements. This form of exposure helps children strengthen the fine motor
development of their wrists, hands and fingers.

Sensory
Water, shaving cream, rice, clay, playdough, flubber, and goop are just a few items available to
provide children with experiences to exercise muscles that control their fingers, hands and arms.
Sensory activities give children the opportunity to talk about “how it feels, smells, looks like,” etc.

Art
Children are given the opportunity to design and create. Paint, glue, water color, chalk, markers,
crayons, colored pencils, beads, buttons, tissue paper, feathers, and much more are available for
the children to use while they create their daily masterpieces!
